Bringing Florida’s Economy Back Online
Florida Senate Passes Bill That Will Modernize Outdated Telecom Laws
Tallahassee, Florida – Citizens for a Digital Future applauds Florida lawmakers for passing House Bill 1231. The Regulatory Reform Act will modernize Florida’s antiquated telecommunications laws and remove barriers to new job creation and investment in the state’s small businesses and communities.
Thanks to the bill’s sponsors, Rep. Mike Horner (R-Kissimmee), and Sen. David Simmons (R-Altamonte Springs), the state’s updated telecommunications will pave the way for added job creation and economic growth as consumers and businesses continue to move to wireless and broadband technologies.
“The legislation enables telecommunications companies to invest in our state’s infrastructure, increase job opportunities, support new businesses that rely on broadband technologies, and ultimately grow our economy. It is obvious by passing this legislation that Florida lawmakers not only understood the importance of keeping us technologically competitive but that it also lays the foundation for delivering more advanced technologies in the future,” said Christina Johnson, Senior Florida Advisor to Citizens for a Digital Future.
By passing HB 1231, the state’s legislature will allow the state to take an important step toward “future-proofing” telecommunications networks throughout the state. The bill recognizes the need for companies to respond quickly to customers’ demands for new and enhanced products and services in order to remain competitive. The evolution of these products and services has contributed to economic growth in other states – and now Florida can share in that growth.
HB 1231 will now be sent to Governor Scott for his signature.
